Dear Parents
This is just to give you a little insight into how things work here at Smartypants Agency and to hopefully prepare you for any forthcoming auditions your child may receive.
There are three ways in which you may receive a casting
· A client will contacts us via Spotlight, this is a pre-paid members only directory in which a company may access directly to find appropriate artists.
· A client may log on to the Smartypants website to view our models and select those suitable for the casting.
· We may receive a casting via the net and submit suitable artists.
Once an artist has been confrmed for a casting, we then have a short amount of time to confrm their availability .
Castings can sometimes be on the same day although we usually have at least one days notice.
The agency will make a brief call to confirm availability, audition details and a confimed audition time will be emailed directly to you.
This is obviously the first step to getting your child professional work. The more auditions they attend the more their confidents will grow.
It is a good idea to have an audition outfit and bag set aside, Keep your audition outfit plain and bright, in your bag please include an A-Z hair brush, face wipes, tape measure, pen and agency contact details.
Please remove jewellery and make-up and ensure that hair length can be seen in photo.
We have found that it is better if children refrain from playing on Gameboys/DS’s,
as this often makes them ‘zoned out.’ It is far better for them to come into the audition ready to interact.
Always try to encourage your child to go into the actual audition without you (You can wait for them in the waiting room). They will not be quite so inhibited and it shows confidence at an early age.
Encourage your child to be polite and to speak nicely when spoken to, practice at home introducing themselves with a good handshake and always answer with complete sentances. It may be an idea to remind your child about outdoor activities and interesting hobbies to give them something that they can talk about with confdence. Most companies do not pay an audition fee so please be aware that travel costs cannot be refunded.
After the casting; if the client would like to see your child again they will contact us.
If you do not hear from us, you can assume that your child has been unsuccessful this time. (Don’t be down hearted, it is all experience.)
If you are contacted, you have either been recalled, pencilled in (shotlisted) or selected.
You may have to attend a wardrobe, a fee of £50.00 is usual for this event.
The next step is to obtain your licence, this usually needs to be done immediately due to the locol authorities lead time:
· Complete Part 2 of your local councils child licensing document. (Essex county councils can be found on our website)
· Copy of your Birth Certifcate
· Medical Certificate(please be aware that this will only last for 6 months)
· School Permission Form (this must be stamped by the school and signed by someone of authority)
We are happy to keep all of these document in your child's file.
On the day of filming you may be asked to make your own travel arrangement for which you will be reimbursed or a car will be arranged to pick you up from home or from the studio.
You may be asked to take items of clothing.
Food is supplied but it may be an idea to take something just in case you child has allergies or is particularly fussy.
Once the job has been completed please forward any travel expense receipts to the offce.
Payment can differ from each company but we do aim to have received and paid our models within three months of work date.
As a parent of an artiste please remember the following:
· Log in to the Smartypants Website and update your CV as soon as you have completed professional work
· Update measurements on a regular basis
· Update contact details as soon as they change
· Update hobbies, exams and skill progress
· Always keep holiday and important dates updated on your child’s profile
· Change your photos on a regular basis to keep the client interested, if your child changes their hairstyle please change their photos.
· Keep the profile updated if your child looses teeth or has a brace ftted.
We thank you so much for your co-operation and look forward to working with you and your family.
